Yum!

We got one-hundred chicks the other day. It's something we've done every year for as long as I can remember. Right now they're cute, but those yellow, peeping little furry balls of fuzz will turn into ugly white roosters.
And then we will do the hardest part of the whole chick thing--- Butchering them. I will be VERY happy when they're in the freezer so we don't have to (Oops! I meant "get to") feed them anymore.

They are fun to play with right now. Lawson and I have been going out to the shop and holding them.
We've tried naming them, but as soon as we put it back in the herd (Aaaaahh! What do you call a bunch of birds?) he just blended in and we couldn't tell him apart from the others.

I'm trying to think of a way that's not permanent to label them. Hmmmm....

Zip ties aren't easy to take off when the chick's leg gets big and it'll make the leg start to cut off circulation.

Twist ties are so big that when you twist 'em up around the peeper's leg, he'll trip. But..... it would be a good leg-strengthening exercise if you want really strong legged roosters.

And.... I've thought about a few other ideas too, but none sound like they would work.

But its not that big of a deal. The chicks won't be cute for long, and I'll be weirded out at myself that I ever wanted to name the ugly chickens when the are grown-up.

The chicks are so cute now, though!

Here's a picture of them:

Do you have any name ideas?

I'd love to hear from you!
Comment below if ya have anything to say!

Here is a random Bible verse that I found when I was reading my bible:

                                          Psalms 47:1-3

O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph.
For the Lord most high is terrible; he is a great King over all the earth.
He shall subdue the people under us, and the nations under our feet.

  1. I recently got five chickens. We couldn't think of what to name them so we named the roster Rostey (my sisters idea) and the hens Goldey so we didn't have to tell the apart.

    1. Awe, those are cute names! Once, I had a hen named Goldey too! My brother and I would tie some twine around her leg and pretend she was our pet eagle. We took her up onto an old combine and played some wild game we made up. Haha!
